Container Hotel by the Sea / Holzer Kobler Architekturen+ Kinzo

These 63 25-square-meter containers that were once used to transport goods across oceans are now assembled into hotels. People who are keen to travel can dream of the sea here. The hotel is located in Warnemünde. Due to the use of recycled freight containers and its unique harbour location, the hotel has established a close connection with the historic shipyard and the sea. The building consists of two parts: the upper four-story structure is a sound-proof compartment made of recycled containers. The base of the two-story building is composed of steel, concrete and glass. The base includes an open entrance hall, as well as a restaurant, bar, guest kitchen, gallery with studio and a boulder hall.

image001The glass facade facing the street allows a lot of natural light to enter the interior. The containers are painted in different colors and integrated into the steel and concrete structure. The container structures are arranged in a row, and the bright colors echo the ocean, beaches, shipyard cranes and coastline, creating a striking industrial-style building in the port area. In the context of nomadic globalization, the container hotel represents a special attitude towards life.

image002 image003The containers that had been voyaged at sea were painted in four different colors. Inside, the space of 12 x 2.5 meters is divided by carefully arranged cabinets, and there is even a separate bathroom. The interior decoration materials are soft tones and made of natural materials, which is comfortable. There are 64 rooms with a total of 188 beds, and there are four different room types: a 30-square-meter shipping container is transformed into a spacious double room and a practical four-bed room, and two welded containers form a spacious harbor suite and affordable Eight-bed dormitory. The decoration of the public space is adventurous. The wooden front desk and bar counter set the tone for the atmosphere of the room.

image004The European-style pallet that can be placed almost at will, like a raft, is the focal point of the open restaurant. Guests can cook their own meals in a laboratory-like kitchen. Some of the container units above have been transformed into SPAs, which overlook the harbour. The hotel offers double and multi-person rooms as well as suites on the top floor. All rooms face the nearby River Warnow and have views of the harbour. The balcony has an extended platform where you can relax and talk to the surrounding guests. Make the building look “lifestyle”. The eyes of people passing by by boat or on foot will be attracted.
